London roofs: what to know

Roofing enquiries are welcome from all of Greater London. Roofs here are often old, shared or in protected areas.

Lofts and permitted development

A loft conversion can usually add up to 40 cubic metres to a terraced house or 50 cubic metres to a detached or semi-detached house under permitted development. This does not apply on designated land such as conservation areas. [1]

Protected streets

There are 1,056 mapped conservation areas in London, covering 20.3% of homes. Changing roof materials there can need planning permission, so check before asking for re-roofing quotes. [2]

Shared roofs on flats

55.9% of London dwellings are flats, so many roofs are shared. In those buildings the lease sets out who is responsible for roof repairs, so check it before arranging work. [3]

Coverage

Roofing enquiries from all of London

Send an enquiry from anywhere in Greater London and we’ll look for an independent roofer who covers your area.

London has a wide mix of roofs: Welsh slate on Victorian terraces, clay tiles on 1930s semis, lead-lined bays and mansards, and flat roofs over rear extensions. Whoever you hire should match slates, tiles and lead to your roof and its surroundings.

Enquiries about commercial and industrial roofs are welcome too; describe the building when you get in touch.

Any inspection is arranged directly between you and the roofer, at your property.
